SOHO-HIPPYCHICK

Listening to Masterpieces last night got me thinking about How Soon Is Now and its opening bars. Sampled by Soho for their 1990 hit Hippychick.I still dont know which song is being played until it gets further into the track.

The core members of the group were Timothy London and twin sisters Jacqui and Pauline Cuff, but other musicians such as the Bluetones' Eds Chesters and Bow Wow Wows' Leigh Gorman featured along the way. They also had an earlier association with Adamski
.

Hippychick was followed by Love Generation which, if it hadnt been for marketing errors, would have sat alongside Hippychick as another chart hit. My favourite Soho track is the rocked out ode to Rosa Parks, Ride (to Freedom) from the album Thug.

So what became of Soho? They carried on regardless signed to Atco in the US and continued to release records. The discography lists 8 in total, all of them are superb and available via iTunes.

Timothy London and Jacqui and Pauline Cuff now live in Edinburgh where Tim works as a producer and film maker (see The Young Fathers) & runs his The Electric Machine music label.
Check iTunes and get on the bus.
